Brendan Cole never misses the chance to put the boot into Dancing with the Stars judge, Craig Revel-Horwood. When asked, Do you and Craig really not get on off set? He responded:
Craig who? Craig and I have professional differences, I'm professional and he's not!
The public's verdict is slightly different. According to a TVNZ poll
- 15% think Brendan is always right
- 22% think Craig is always right, and
- 63% think they are arguing for the sake of it
Here is the full interview:
What's it like being a judge, as opposed to a contestant? Very different. Obviously there is not nearly as much to do being a judge. One advantage is that you know you're not going to be eliminated at any time. But I am a dancer and there is no bigger thrill than walking down the stairs and doing what you've trained your whole life for to the nation. Having said that I would only want to be a dancer on Strictly Come Dancing, as I do love my role as Judge here on Dancing with the Stars.
Do you still call NZ home? That's a tough question. I consider myself to be 100% New Zealander, but as home is where I lay my hat I guess that would be London. But I am definitely not English and I get extremely excited when I come home and a real sense of pride as I fly in over our beautiful country.
How does the celebrity dancing level rate, relative to similar TV shows you have been involved with overseas? I think everywhere is much the same. They are mostly beginner dancers trying to learn a new skill, there is only so good you can get over a short space of time. A lot depends on their attitude and who they are partnered with, the choices that they make as a couple and the list goes on. But over all we've seen some very good performances from the New Zealand celebrity contestants.
What's with Paul's high score in week 4? I wish I knew - state of confusion maybe? I can't speak for the other judges but my 6 (although generous) was based on many things. The thing with Paul and Rebecca's Paso Doble is that it was pure entertainment and had the entire nation totally bemused. As much as this show is about producing good dancing, other things do come into it, like entertainment. My honest answer is I didn't know what to mark when it came to us so quickly. On entertainment level I would have given them a 9 or 10 and on Paso Doble skills a 2 or 3. Somewhere in the middle was the call I made so maybe they deserved the marks that they received.
Who would be your ideal celebrity dance partner? I may have already had her? I was very privileged to be partnered with our very own Rachel Hunter in a one off Christmas special on Strictly Come Dancing. She had had ballet experience when she was a child so she was very capable and the routine we did was challenging for me as well as her. She was incredible to work with, extremely dedicated and we had a fantastic week. Don't tell Rachel but between you and I, lucky me!
Do you and Craig really not get on off set? Craig who? Craig and I have professional differences, I'm professional and he's not!
