Joe Cotton's Jenny Craig Diet

Joe Cotton's Jenny Craig DietJoe Cotton's latest little earner sees the formerly tubby TrueBliss singer and Pop's Ultimate Star endorsing the Jenny Craig diet. The earnings from her new contract are undisclosed, industry insiders suggest she will be earning six figures by endorsing the Jenny Craig weight loss plan to help her lose 7kg so she can squeeze into her wedding dress without the aid of pully inny pants.

This morning's NZ Herald carries an interview with a very cheesed off representative from Weight Watchers, who are unhappy that Joe has switched teams.

Weight Watchers' spokeswoman Karen Church said the company did not receive a courtesy call about her new contract, which has lead to some confusion by members.

Cotton did not have an exclusive contract with Weight Watchers ... but she had done numerous advertising campaigns, including television ads, women's magazine promotions and interviews.

"I was quite shocked," Church said. "We are disappointed she didn't come to us to lose a few kilos for her wedding. We didn't have any consultation in the process of her decision and there wasn't a call."

Joe's money making schemes are nothing new. She has appeared in just about every reality television show around and gives frequent "exclusive" interviews to the gossip mags. Joe has also spoken candidly about her sexercise diet which involved losing weight while lying flat on her back. Presumably that "exclusive" interview resulted in yet another pay cheque.

In one interview, she discussed her earnings from the many "exclusive" interviews that appear in the woman's magazines.
You know your status by the sums the magazines offer. If they offer you $8,000 for a photo shoot you know you’re OK. If they offer $1500 you know they’re really scraping the barrel for an article that week.

To their credit, the Jenny Craig advertisement is brilliantly done. It shows Joe "Dancing Eyebrows" Cotton squeezing into her body shaping undies in order to fit into a tight dress. The advert is bound to see the phone lines ringing hot in much the same way that Kirstie Alley's endorsement saw the US Jenny Craig swamped with tubby callers eager to lose weight. Kirstie Alley's initial appearance on Oprah to endorse Jenny Craig resulted in nearly double the number of enquiries to Jenny Craig Weight Loss Centres.

In the past Joe was paid to endorse the Weight Watchers diet system, and has also endorsed the 'Love Your Body Day' which advocates a non diet approach and instead encourages people to love their bodies and get off the diet weight loss - weight regain - weight loss cycle. So in total that makes three weight loss/body image plans that Joe has endorsed.

Is there nothing this gal won't do or say for money?

Joe Cotton's Latest Diet

Joe Cotton winning Pop's Ultimate Star

Formerly flabby Pop's Ultimate Star Joe Cotton is the new stomach err face of weight loss company Jenny Craig. Following in the footsteps of Kirstie Alley's giant rear end, Joe hopes to lose weight and pick up a pay cheque for her efforts.

She's feeling self-conscious that she's now 74kg which puts her 10% over her ideal weight of 68kg. She goes on to say that she knows some people won't think that she's very overweight but after friends asked her if she was pregnant she decided it was time to change. She plans to lose the 6kg over the next three months so she doesn't have to haul out her Magic Knickers or pully inny pants as she calls them to wear her old clothes. That sounds like a sensible eating plan, and let's hope Joe's days of bulimia are long behind her.

Of course, one has to wonder about Joe promoting a diet plan and talking about feeling fat and needing to wear corsets when only two months ago she was proudly supporting Love Your Body Day for EDEN, an organisation that promotes "body trust and satisfaction, size acceptance and diversity on an individual and societal level". According to EDEN
  • Diets don’t work. Even if you lose weight, you will probably gain it back, often regaining more than you lost (yo-yo dieting and weight cycling)
  • Dieting increases size prejudice, and makes people more judgemental and critical of themselves and others
  • Giving up dieting and learning to love and accept yourself just as you are will give you self-confidence, better health, and a more enduring sense of well-being

Wonder EDEN feel about someone who has supported size acceptance now promoting a weight loss program aka a diet.

The wedding to fiance Daniel Shields is scheduled for 2009 and Joe wants to be able to fit into her wedding dress. No doubt, she will be selling this story to the magazines too, so expect to see pictures of the dress, the wedding, and the honeymoon and more interviews about her sex life.

Joe Cotton & Nicky Watson talk about their sex lives

There's been a lot of talk over the weekend about how New Zealand women are the most promiscuous in the world. According to a survey by condom manufacturers Durex, NZ women have an average of 20.4 sex partners when the global average is only 7.3.

Miss Prozac reckons NZ women need to have sex with three times the number of men because kiwi blokes are so shag useless. It takes three kiwi men to provide the same level of 'customer satisfaction' as it would take one hunky Spaniard.

Nicky Watson and Kiel de BuissonThink about it... If you could have one Antonio Banderas or three Jason Gunns, who are you going to choose?

Celebrity Women & Sex Partners
The NZ Herald interviewed some kiwi celebs to get the low down on their bedroom and antics. Miss Prozac couldn't care less how many sexual partners TV One presenter Paul Henry has had, although she hears rumours that his desk needs an extra spray of Pledge, but she was fascinated by the answers given by sexpots Joe Cotton and Nicky Watson.

Nicky Watson was unusually coy, possibly following the aftermath of her revelations of a threesome with Logan Millar and Michaiah Simmons. She would only say that the number of partners was less than the gossip mongers suggest. She says having sex with lots of partners is fine so long as you respect yourself and practice safe sex. Wonder if Durex will be hiring her for their next campaign?

Joe Cotton on Pop's Ultimate StarJoe Cotton, whom Miss Prozac seems to recall credits sexercise as part of her weight loss success says the number of partners that she has had is somewhere between 11 and 19. She reckons when it comes to men you should try before you buy.

Presumably that number won't be increasing any time soon, as she has recently got engaged to her boyfriend of three years, Daniel. The big day will be sometime in 2009, and her father Peter is pleased as punch.

Father Peter is Joe's biggest fan (next to that guy from Boyband that was waving posters at the filming of Pop's Ultimate Star), and kept pestering the producers of Popstar to give her an audition during her lunch hour for the show that created band TrueBliss. Sounds like a great father!

Joe Cotton's Magic Knickers

If you've watched Trinny and Susannah's What Not to Wear or Gok Wan's How to Look Good Naked, you may have noticed that body shaping underwear, or "Magic Knickers" are all the rage.

When Kirstie Alley magically lost several kilos overnight for her Jenny Craig photos, many insiders whispered that the result was a combination of Magic Knickers and Photoshop.

During Kristie's "bikini reveal", she admitted that the pantyhose she was wearing were designed to suck in her legs and butt and make them look smaller.

Closer to home Joe 'Dancing Eyebrows' Cotton, Edge DJ, Pop's Ultimate Star winner, and singer at the recent Edge marriage, Three Strangers & A Wedding, is a fan of Magic Knickers. Is nothing sacred Joe? Now Miss Prozac has to go look directly into to the sun to get rid of the images of you in your Magic Knickers.

Joe Cotton, singer and radio personality, says she's been wearing "pully inny"
pants for years.

"I perform every weekend and we wear quite tight-fitting dresses. When I did Pop's Ultimate Star this year, the stylist just got them for everyone . . . They're hideously ugly, but it doesn't matter, because they make everything else on top look good.

"G-strings are great if you're going on a date and you have a feeling somebody's going to see you in them . . . but let's be honest, I don't think any woman in the world thinks a g-string is comfortable. And those other French knickers, that come up your bum at the back? They cut you in half. They look pretty, but you have to keep adjusting them."

Cotton, 29, admits her partner Daniel loathes her big knickers.
Quelle Surprise! Poor Daniel. Must take him half an hour to wriggle Joe's butt out of those undies. Guess it puts paid to the quickie...

But on another note, everyone on Pop's Ultimate Star wore Magic Knickers? Does this include big Matt Saunoa?

TVNZ Vote Rigging No Enquiry Necessary

Nik Carlson Joe Cotton Pop's Ultimate Star
TVNZ see no need for an enquiry into vote rigging after Nik Carlson's mum Leigh Warburton, and fan Jill Clarke accused TVNZ of vote rigging on reality TV singing contest Pop's Ultimate Star.

We checked in with TVNZ and found that they see no need to conduct any sort of inquiry into the voting for Pop's Ultimate Star. A spokesperson told us:

The voting for Pop's Ultimate Star was collated by an independent body, and TVNZ is satisfied that the process was accuarate and fair. Particularly since voting happened 'on the night', so there would never have been any time for 'rigging'. Also, Joe Cotton was very far ahead in votes right from the first performance. TVNZ has seen no reason for an enquiry.

Pop's Ultimate Embarrassments, Minties Moments and scandals

Pop's Ultimate Star judges and contestants
Okay, so we know Pop's Ultimate Wannabe Star is over, but some memories live on. After the awards ceremony we looked back over the series and discovered that some of the Minties Moments deserve extra recognition, so today we present Pop's Ultimate Embarrassments - the tragic outfits, the ones they forgot to do up and all the thrills and spills of reality television.

Lip-synching scandal
TVNZ categorically deny any lip-synching or vote rigging. Okay, we accept there was no lip-synching on Pop's Ultimate Star, but we do have a query about Joe's comment in her interview:

I love the fact you do something and you do your very best and still people criticise you and find fault. I have never lip synched in my life. It is always live.
A couple of hundred people who watched TrueBliss perform 'live' at Lynn Mall say otherwise...so did the Western Leader. As for the vote rigging? They jury's still out on that one, so we'll keep you posted on the official investigation.

Word Blunders
Of course, Big Matt Saunoa probably wishes he could have lip-synched his way through the final after blowing it by forgetting the lines of his song. And it’s not the first time... Big Matt made a wowser of a boo-boo in the final when he missed two whole lines of the second verse. But he wasn't the only one.

Ben Lummis also forgot the words to his song in an earlier show and who can forget Ben's use of the word "Jew", instead of "You" during his performance of 'Every Breathe You Take' by The Police?

David Wikaira-Paul and Camillia Temple also struggled with the word "ask," using "aks" instead. Tut tut.

Voting Scandal
As for the voting I have one query...
How did TJ win Virtual Pop Star when he wasn't in the top 10?

The Trippers
Maybe the glass stage and stairs were a bad idea. The contestants seemed to struggle with their balance, and a few of them tripped. Ben's stumble wasn't obvious to everyone but others were more obvious.

Some of the ladies dresses made them a bit unstable and others had hiccups during their performances:
  • Keri Harper managed to trip on her jacket
  • David Wikaira-Paul's stumble down the stairs
  • Ben Lummis tripped twice.
  • Emily Williams tripped over gawd knows what (must have been her high-high-high heeled boots) and...
  • Matt had a bit of a stumble on the glass stage, but managed to make it look like part of his dance moves.

The Tragic Outfits.
We were really spoilt for choice when looking back over the series fashion shockers. From Camillia's awful 80's get-up, to Steve's Drag Queen ensemble, to Emily's Street Walker look, there were more lows than highs. Although nothing got lower than the neckline on Joe's dresses!

On a bright note, if Mother Goose ever needs another Humpty Dumpty, there's always Matt.

The abuse
Joe Cotton's win wasn't popular with everyone. Matt Saunoa's partner,
Lisa-Jane MacKenzie abused the judges on the final night and stormed out of TVNZ's Avalon studio, after Matt received very average feedback from the judges. Heck Lisa-Jane, those guys are big influencers in the music industry. Jordan Luck is looking for new talent to perform songs, somehow we don't expect Matt will be getting a call.

Messageboards were active with allegations of vote fixing and dodgy judging. Some went as far as threatening Joe Cotton after her win, believing she was unworthy of the title. In the end, the abuse was so extreme that TVNZ made the decision to close their messageboard.

The Scandals - Drugs, Sex and Alcohol
Matt gave us some goodies with his infamous night at the Casino, and the Play Station incident. Not to mention the drama that played out on stage between him and Harry over Matt's lack of professionalism.

Speaking of Matt and the Sky City Casino, during the NZ Idol series, the contestants went for a jump off the Sky Tower. Matt was unable to participate because of his size and weight. Ouch!

As for Kim Willoughby, she does have a son with Temuera Morrison, although she is not listed on any celebrity profiles as being the boy's mother. Tem also has full custody of their son. That's pretty unusual. We wonder why...

And how about David
Wikaira-Paul's Singing Coach? She coached him straight out of the competition. All credit to David - He did better than anyone predicted, but does anyone know what happened to his promised TV appearance? In Dave's elimination interview, he mentioned that we would see him on another television show a couple of weeks after the end of Pop's Ultimate Star. Did we blink and miss it?

Nik Carlson's
ultimate embarrassment is being a mummy's boy, after letting his mother fight his battles for him. His everlovin' mum accused TVNZ of vote rigging. We're still waiting on the results of that enquiry, but given that TVNZ take three months to cough up the money that celebs earned for charity on Dancing with the Stars, we're not holding our breath.

One final question Nik, please answer the question...Are you Gay? We put our questions to him, but he chose to ignore us. Big mistake Nikster. Making up gossip is MUCH more fun! He's never denied it, and various messageboards have talked about his ex-boyfriend, so until we hear otherwise...

Emily's on again off again album news
Emily Williams did her bit with rumours circulating about drug use and alcohol problems. One eye witness claims that Emily frequently drinks alcohol during performances. She certainly seemed vague during her interviews.

Emily signed to Sony in January 2006 and the press release at the time stated that her album would be released during 2006, but her album is yet to be released. Some have speculated that Em's drinking is the holdup. During her interview with NZ Reality TV, Em told us she would be recording her album on her return to Australia. Em's man has been saying there may be an album from Emily and sister Lavina during 2008. There will also be a second album from Emily's band Young Divas in November 2007, with a single from the group in September 2007. We'll keep you posted.
Rachel Says:
June 22nd, 2006 at 10:41 am
The reason why sony is not releasing anything yet, on emily is because she arrived to a showcase for sony looking disorientated and drugged out, maybe emily is taking this opportunity for granted, me and my partner watched her perform in sydney a few months back at a gay bar and we were shocked to see her sculling cups of wine or beer backstage.

We hope she wasn't drinking during P.U.S, since she claimed, on Studio 2, that she only drinks cups of tea before going on stage.

That reminds me. Perhaps Em should have gotten a few more hours sleep after her elimination night. She was looking terribly under the weather when she appeared on Studio 2. In fact, I think she was still drunk from the previous nights efforts. In her elimination interview she admitted to being horribly hung over. Fair enough, but is this a habit with Young Diva Emily?

After she ran the 'Celebrity Gauntlet' on TV's Studio 2, Emily had to drink a shot of Wheat grass, suck an orange wedge, and sing the first line of the New Zealand National Anthem. It took a mighty effort on her part not to vomit. How embarrassing. But according to TVNZ she was a "trooper" and a good sport about the whole adventure.

Immunity Rout
The public spoke out and the public were heard. Full credit to the person responsible for axing that madcap idea. Camillia, Nik, and Ben were given immunity from elimination before it was thrown in the bin. And not before time - what a ripoff, scamming voters out of money, and then awarding immunity. Tsk tsk Touchdown. It's bad enough that you force us to watch mediocre singers being praised by namby pamby judges, but then you force us to watch those singers get caked in your sponsor's products (if only it had been the toothpaste, instead of the mascara - that would be entertaining), and take money from teens under the guise of letting them choose who gets eliminated from the show.

Hide Under A Rock - Zipper Slip!
Resident goddess Rosita Vai, might not have noticed, but Cerise did. Performing on National telly with your zipper down ranks up there with going to school in your pyjamas. Cringe factor 10.
Thanks for the chuckle, Rosita. We especially loved Rosita's elimination interview when you told us WE were the weird ones!

Most Desperate Fan
Thanks to MaryCherry for this little gem...
I reckon Boyband's Rob Arnold deserves an award for Saddest Attempt To Get on TV. He was in the audience a few times holding big sings for Joe, wearing a TrueBliss T-shirt and having insanely bad hair. Surely that deserves something?
We agree.

The Thank You Queen
We know someone brought you up real good Camillia, but the incessant toadying and thank yous were a bit much. We like the real Camillia. The one who tells it like it is in her elimination interview and shows she's got sass. Of course, your manners were a lot better than NZ Idol judge Megan 'Girlfriend' Alatini, who argued with the DWTS judges, but perhaps something in the middle would be a bit more realistic, huh?

Joe Cotton's Threats

Joe Cotton
Sunday News reports that Joe "Dancing Eyebrows" Cotton has been abused and threatened after winning reality TV singing contest, Pop's Ultimate Star.

"There were people out there threatening to actually stalk me and hurt me because I won," Joe last night told Sunday News.

TVNZ's message board for the show, which included comments such as "I care about Joe destruction" and "warn Joe there may be a stalker on the loose after her", had been closed.

That's crazy. Didn't Miss Dancing Eyebrows win because she was the most popular singer? Lateral Profiles, who were contracted to count the text votes for the contest, reported that Joe received twice as many votes as the next most popular contestant, so what gives? This statement is supported by the TVNZ poll which placed Joe in the lead with 51% of the vote. Nik Carlson scored 26% of the vote, edging out Big Matt who got 23% of the vote.

The judges of Pop's Ultimate Star also came in for criticism, and were abused by the partner of one of the contestants. Wonder who that could be? David Wikaira-Paul and Matt Saunoa are the only contestants with female partners... (to our knowledge)
Last night a publicist for Pop's Ultimate Star confirmed a contestant's partner yelled unsavoury comments at the judges

Nik Carlson's mum says votes were rigged

nik carlson photo
There has been a lot of speculation about the voting for Pop's Ultimate Star and now Nik Carlson's mum is asking for an official investigation into the voting for this singing contest, accusing TVNZ of rigging the votes.

We've spoken to TVNZ about this who categorically deny any claims of vote rigging. Their spokesperson told us that the voting is nothing to do with them, and is arranged by producers Eyeworks Touchdown, who in turn employed Lateral Profiles to aggregate the text votes (and take a wee fee along the way). The same company was responsible for collecting the text votes for NZ Idol and Dancing with the Stars.

TVNZ have told us in writing that the votes were not rigged.

Nik's mother Leigh Warburton is leading a group of supporters, querying the voting results for Pop's Ultimate Star.

Ms Warburton said in a letter to TVNZ that she "would like to be presented with proof that everything was above board" and wants to know the number of votes received for each contestant.

I think we'd all like to know that, however TVNZ is reluctant to release these figures as it would reveal the income that is being made from this show. TVNZ have also refused to reveal voting numbers for Dancing with the Stars, despite pleas from judge Craig Revel-Horwood, who notes that UK celebrity dancing contest, Strictly Come Dancing, releases voter numbers.

TVNZ public affairs spokeswoman Megan Richards said an independent company collects the votes and the number of text votes received over the course of the show is "fully auditable if required".

Lateral Profiles general manager Norman Holtzhausen said, "the leading contender (Joe Cotton) was ahead virtually the entire series, about two to one against the runner-up. It was a little embarrassing," he said.

Mr Holtzhausen said the vote count for the grand final was three times greater than the previous shows although the relative difference remained the same between Cotton and Carlson.
Nik was saved from elimination by the judges on four separate occasions. Was he a victim of vote rigging? Polls have consistently put Matt Saunoa behind Nik, yet he was never in the bottom two until the final. Naturally this raises questions. However, polls don't take into account the fact that text voting allows individuals to make multiple votes.

The lack of disclosure of voting numbers, and the elimination of popular contestant Ben Lummis, has created a lot of questions. We welcome this inquiry - we'd especially love to see the exact number of votes each contestant received. More than anything, we think this controversy proves that this system of selecting a winner is flawed. Perhaps voters should be asked to vote for the person they think should be eliminated, instead of the person they would like to stay?

Tell us what you think. Do you think the votes were rigged? Is there a better system for choosing the best singer?

Added: While we're on the subject of hinky voting - check out our post on Virtual Popstar. TJ won but he wasn't voted into the top 10 when we checked at the time he received his prize.

Joe Cotton Reality TV interview

Today I interviewed Miss Reality Television aka Joe Cotton, the winner of Pop's Ultimate Star. We talked about everything from reality television, the cruelty of the public, to her cleavage and money...

Camillia Temple stated that none of you would have been there if it wasn’t for the pay. How big a factor was the weekly pay cheque in your decision to be in Pop’s Ultimate Star?
Absolutely. To be honest we knew we were signing up for a lot of ridicule and criticism. None of us would have signed up for the show and put ourselves through that without the pay. I already work several different jobs. I have my radio job at The Edge and my singing with my band.

On reality television
I’ve been on a lot of reality television shows and I’ve read the cruel things people say about me on the websites. People can be incredibly mean. They criticise everything. [Really? And you’re still talking to us?]

I’ve been on a lot of reality TV shows and I know how it works but it’s still hard to take.

For the record Joe Cotton has been on:

  • Treasure Island (season 3)
  • The Great New Zealand Spelling Bee (she came 3rd)
  • Pop Goes The Weasel (C4 show hosted by Jaquie Brown)
  • Celebrity Joker Poker

You might spot some other familiar faces from The Great New Zealand Spelling Bee, which included Rosita Vai, Jordan Luck and Kim Willoughby.

Helen Medlyn, Jordan Luck and Kim Willoughby
So why did you do the show?
I went on the show because Keri Harper was going to be on it and I thought it would be a lot of fun to do it together.

What did you get up to last night?

We all went out and had a few drinks. I'm feeling very hungover and I think a lot of the others will be too. Emily Williams was partying hard and Rosita Vai was still going strong when I left.

Did you get paid for being on the cover of the Herald on Sunday View magazine?
No. Laughs. I didn’t realise when I did that interview that talking about being paid for magazine interviews and photos was taboo.

Are you one of those people that sets goals and visualises success as a tool to achieving goals?
Not really. I just focused on my performance and wanting to be the best possible representative of myself and my band. I never expected to win. But I’ve been given an opportunity and I wanted to make the most of it. After TrueBliss, I stepped out of the limelight for a while and I lost confidence and didn’t do anything. Then I realised that I was letting opportunities go and I decided to do what I could. I’ve worked extremely hard to get to where I am.

What do you say to the people that say your radio show gave you an unfair advantage?
I heard that a lot. It’s funny. I thought it was strange. On Dancing With The Stars the contestants are encouraged to promote themselves, so how is it different? I spent time out of the industry. TrueBliss was nine years ago. Then I decided to start taking opportunities. Everyone who has been on NZ Idol had the same opportunities. I’ve made the most I could of those opportunities. It was up to them to do the same. I’ve stayed on top of the game and worked hard. There was no clause in the contract that said I couldn’t promote myself on the show.

Everyone else had the same opportunity. I told all the other contestants they were welcome to come on my show any time they liked to promote themselves and talk on the show. I encouraged people to vote, but I didn’t tell them to vote for me. I told them to vote for their favourite. I said of course I’d love it if you voted for me, but you don’t have to. Vote for the person you want to win.

What did you think when Ben Lummis was eliminated from the show?
That was a shock for everyone. No one expected him to go. After that I think people realised they had to vote for their favourite.

Joe Cotton
Speaking of hard work, how much time did you put into the show?
We had about nine hours during the week. We’d get our song selection on Tuesday night and that’s when the filming is done. Then on Wednesday some rehearsal of the song. Also the Cover Girl makeovers, and shots of things you’re doing during the week. Then we go down to Wellington for final rehearsals and filming. On Sunday we start at 8am and are rehearsing and fine-tuning for the whole day.

Put the rumours to rest - Were you lip synching?
I love the fact you do something and you do your very best and still people criticise you and find fault. I have never lip synched in my life. It is always live.

In the studio sound is so different. Everything sounds much louder than it does on television and I was holding the microphone away to stop it from sounding so loud and trying to tone it down.

joe cotton
How did you feel about showing your cleavage each week on national television?
That was the decision of the stylist although you could say you absolutely hated something and she didn’t mind. She let us have the final say.

I didn’t mind the cleavage. At times I thought it was risqué. We had to fix up the green dress a few hours before the show and put in extra panels because it was too revealing.

I was sewn into the other green dress I wore in an earlier show. I saw myself later dancing around at the end and it looked like two squirrels trying to make their way out of a sleeping bag.

Will we see you again on television?
There is nothing planned at this stage. For now I am focusing on my normal jobs on radio and with my band The Mermaids Danceband. I’m having today off and then I will be back to work tomorrow.

Will there be any more reality TV for you?
You have to gird your loins to do reality television. I’m not ready for that right now. I loved Treasure Island, it was the most fun ever but I want to focus on the jobs I already have.

Do you plan to release an album?
It’s been at the back of my mind for a long time. One day when I’m feeling brave enough…

What made you choose to sing the song Angel and how much choice did you have?
I chose that as my first elimination song, but I didn’t have to do an elimination so I kept that song all through the competition. You do have to clear your songs through the show and there was one that was a problem but I could have changed it if I wanted to.

What are you going to do with the $50,000?
I haven’t even thought about it. I should do something sensible like a house deposit but a little part of me wants to spend it on shoes or a puppy or a holiday.

Anything else you’d like to say?
Everyone that took part in the show and even the judges were exceptionally brave. I commend them for staying true to themselves and backing themselves and believing in themselves. People can be so cutting and cruel. I am just so pleased to have made it to the final, let alone win and I learned a lot from the others in the show.

P.U.S. The Grand Final.

Matt Saunoa, Joe Cotton, Nik Carlson.
In the end there can only be one. And unfortunately, the last one standing was predetermined at the beginning of the series. Tonight I bring you serious questions about lip-lynching, biased judges' decisions, and a shoddy production by Touchdown and TV2.

Sadly, I am hard pushed to give a decent review of this Grand Final of Pop's Ultimate Star, but I shall endeavor to bring you a blow-by-blow account of this evening's show.

Dig at Dom.
Considering tonight
was the final episode, I expected Dominic Bowden to come out in a super suit. Instead, he came out in a black and white ensemble that had the barest hint of suave with the black/gray striped suit.

Personality-wise...again, lack lustre. The sad part is that Dom has been making a cameo appearance on Studio2 over the last couple of weeks and has shown more personality there than over the entire duration of the P.U.S series.

Tonight's Cover Girl Victim was Joe Cotton.
I don't understand these promos. Every time someone shows up for a CG make over, they come out onto the stage looking nothing like the way they exited the CG room. Do they go from the Cover Girl room to a Shiseido room?

Case in point...2 weeks ago Nik Carlson went into the Cover Girl room for his 'make up'. He still had stubble, and the foundation was applied over his stubble and eyebrows. When he appeared on stage, he was clean-shaven.

Reunion Performance

Song: Those Were Our Younger Years.
Everyone looked smashing, but Matt could've pulled his pants up. Actually, he looked like a spunky Sommelier. Vocally, and harmony wise, everyone blended nicely.

Not sure about the song choice, though. Are the judges kissing goodbye to THEIR younger years?

Virtual Popstar
What?
Apart from the 2 young girls, I thought the potentials might have needed an ambulance. The girl who sang 'Part Of That World' from The Little Mermaid soundtrack did really well, considering her brother needed a good kick up the ahhhs. I think her name was Paris, and she hails from Whangarei. Yay! Good Northern stock.

TJ Taotua did a good solo effort on guitar and vocals. But, bro, go back to your roots. You have a long way to go. Sorry. Loads of potential though. Kind of ironic, that a competitor from NZ Idol should win Virtual Popstar. Although we have some questions about whether TJ should have won!

Surprise performance.

The final 3 drew straws to select their 'back-up' singers.

Camillia Temple, Nik Carlson, David Wikaira-Paul & Rosita Vai
Nik Carlson
chose Camillia Temple, Rosita Vai, and David Wikaira-Paul to support him in Soul 2 Soul's Back To Life.

I love this song, but it was a major hit and miss. Let's see what he was working with:
