Craig Revel Horwood Prostitute & Drag Queen

Craig Revel HorwoodDancing with the Stars and Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel-Horwood reveals in his forthcoming autobiography All Balls and Glitter that he worked as a prostitute and drag queen in his teens.

The judge, who prides himself on his honesty, is set to reveal all the backstage goss on his Strictly Come Dancing co-judges, dancers and celebs as well as talking candidly about his life as a “rent boy” for a 43 year old male celebrity when he was only 17 years of age.

He became a gay hooker when he was just SEVENTEEN and living in a small town in Australia.

His main customer was a famous Aussie TV personality, who was then 43.

The following year Craig found another way to make money—as a raunchy drag queen called LAVISH.

He would don a BLONDE WIG, FULL MAKE-UP, FISHNET STOCKINGS and ELBOW-LENGTH GLOVES to perform at gay bars and clubs around the country.
Hope the book has pictures!

  • While in New Zealand for the 2008 season of Dancing with the Stars, Craig met a fan who said she’d love to dance with him. He gallantly waltzed her around the shop, but her employers weren’t impressed. Sunday News reports that the shop assistant was sacked for unbecoming behaviour. Ouch!

Who is Your Favourite DWTS Judge?

Mintshot conducted a poll this week in their weekly Play the People game asking people who they preferred as a judge: Craig Revel-Horwood or Brendan Cole

65% of members voted Brendan the preferred judge.

From the comments I saw, some people don’t watch Dancing with the Stars and didn’t know either of the judges or were unsure who to pick. The poll only gave two options (Brendan or Craig). The results are likely to have been different if people weren't forced to choose, and could instead say I don't know, or no preference...

Craig Revel-Horwood vs Brendan Cole Round 2

Tina Cross, Aaron Gilmore
Ding! Ding! Round 2 of the ongoing battle between Dancing with the Stars judges Brendan Cole and Craig Revel-Horwood continued in this week’s third episode.

Not only do the pair frequently disagree with each other but they make such a song and dance over the whole thing. They both have a habit of prefacing all their comments with, “I disagree with… [insert Craig or Brendan]” although the habit is more pronounced in Craig. Is it not possible for them to comment without drawing attention to the fact that they disagree with each other? And, why does Brendan appear to have it in for Tina Cross? Greer Robson speculates that it has something to do with the personal history between Aaron Gilmore and Brendan. Aaron used to partner Brendan’s sister Vanessa Cole in competitive dancing when he lived in Australia.

The most recent argument broke out during the third episode when the judges critiqued Tina Cross doing the Jive with Aaron. Brendan bagged the performance saying it was stiff, hard and frantic and didn’t have the jive essence. Later, Craig said Brendan was wrong; Brendan interrupted and spoke over the top of Craig, who told him to “shut it”.

CRH: I think Brendan is speaking a load of rubbish, to be honest. [Doesn’t he always?]

BC: Is that from your technical background? [Ooh, sarcasm]

CRH: You’ve had your turn Brendan. You can just shut it for a moment. [That's just rude.]

BC: Please, darling. [More sarcasm, although this one made Miss Prozac chuckle]

CRH: It had all three fantastic elements – performance, technique and a great partnership. [Very certain he’s right, as always]

BC: Once again Craig shows his lack of technical understanding. [Sulking now]

The resulting scores for the performance were Brendan 5, Alison 8, Craig 9, Paul 9 so Brendan was clearly the dissenting vote on this occasion. He was also somewhat sarcastic with his “Please, darling” mimicking Craig’s appalling habit of saying darling, and the once again…

Looking at the other Jives of the evening, Brendan gave a score of 7 to Monty Betham, 8 to Temepara George, and 5 to Cory Hutchings. The latter was the only performance on which the pair agreed with Brendan saying, “I can’t believe I’m saying this, but Craig was right, it was a bit rough.”

There is simply no way that Tina’s Jive should be awarded the same low score as Cory's. Surfing Dude Cory looked cute, and he appeared to be enjoying his routine more than Tina. He deserves points for that, as he made an emotional connection with the audience and a lust connection with Miss Prozac, but his timing was out and the technique was mediocre.

Verdict:
In Round 1 it was a narrow victory to Craig. We were hoping Brendan would come back strongly in Round 2 but it didn’t happen. Craig provoked him by saying he was speaking "a load of rubbish" and Brendan rose to the bait. Why can't Craig disagree nicely, like Paul Mercurio does? Craig won by default, despite his rudeness.

We agree with Brendan that Tina needed to loosen up in her Jive. Brendan’s a Latin American specialist and we usually agree with his comments, but you can’t go talking over the top of your other judges. We’re also concerned he’s so harsh on Tina.

Another victory to Craig bringing the score to 2-Nil

Craig Revel-Horwood All Balls and Glitter

Craig Revel-Horwood is to spill the beans on backstage gossip in his autobiography.

All Balls and Glitter follows Craig's story from when he left his small-town home in Australia to embark on a career as a dancer and choreographer in Europe. It includes stories from his personal life, as well as private photographs and anecdotes on working with the likes of Judi Dench and Julie Andrews on shows including Cats and West Side Story.

It will also include a few inside stories on his time judging Dancing with the Stars and Strictly Come Dancing.

According to Michael O'Mara Books commissioning editor Kate Gribble,

"Not only is [Craig] ¬hugely marketable because of his 'Strictly' appeal, but he also has an incredible tale to tell, with his trademark honesty and acerbic humour.

"It is 'Strictly' that has brought him to major public prominence, however," she adds. "And its secrets will be spilled unsparingly—both onstage shenanigans and breathtaking backstage gossip."

Presumably his ongoing war of words with Brendan Cole will also get a mention.

The book is due to be published in September 2008 to coincide with the sixth series of Strictly Come Dancing which attracted more than 12 million viewers for the final last year. Craig Revel-Horwood has already penned the book Teach Yourself Ballroom Dancing.

Craig Doesn't Regret Making Geeling Cry

Brendan Cole, Alison Leonard, Craig Revel-Horwood, Paul Mercurio
Craig Revel-Horwood is unrepentant that his severe criticism saw Geeling Ng in tears after the first episode of Dancing with the Stars.

He also says he's feeling the loss of politicians in this year's line up, saying they make for good entertainment. Miss Prozac agrees that we need a better mix of celebs. This year's sporting bias with four of the celebrities competing in or commentating on sports lacks entertainment.

Train wreck entertainment aka Rodney Hide's spear tackle, make memorable television. But, some sadists out there keeps voting to keep the uncoordinated twats in week after week with Vote for the Worst campaigns, and good dancers suffer early elimination. Bringing the clowns on for a week or two is fine, but what this show really needs are high profile celebs. Perhaps the dishy Karl Urban could be persuaded to rhumba? After that Miss Prozac's list runs dry. Do we have any other celebrities in New Zealand that haven't already been on DWTS?

Caustic Craig or Mr Honest?
But back to Craig. At one stage, the UK magazines reported that Craig had been transformed from the nasty judge on Strictly Come Dancing to the fair and reasonable judge. For a time, he appeared that way on Dancing With The Stars.

But, it seems Mr Nice guy has been locked away and Caustic Craig is back with a vengeance. His vituperative comments about Brendan Cole are starting to cross the line. Just last week he said Brendan's comments suck and has previously described him as a womaniser and an arsehole. Is labelling himself honest, just an excuse to be cantankerous?

Luckily we’ve got the charming Paul Mercurio to counterbalance any harsh criticism. Miss Prozac is loving having him back on the judging panel, and the battle between Craig and Brendan is pretty amusing. The less said about The ClichĂ© Queen Alison Leonard the better.

Craig told the gossip mags that it’s his job to be honest and that’s all he was doing. Craig conceded he did feel a bit bad – for about two seconds – when he saw Geeling Ng crying at the after party, but he asks, is it his fault, if she does a lousy waltz?

Geeling's Bowie Affair
In other news in the gossip mags, Geeling says that she had a month long affair with David Bowie (yes, yes, we know you've heard it all before), travelling the world with him to exotic locations. Bet she wished she was anywhere but Wellington last Tuesday...

DWTS After Show Party
For those of you who are wondering about 'The After Party', the cast and crew get together after each show for a few drinkies and watch the show again at Avalon Studios. After that they throw their keys in a bowl to see who they’re going home with.

Alright, Miss Prozac was just kidding about the keys, but you have to wonder. Last year, Candy Lane said at least two couples were doing the horizontal mambo, and Paul Holmes said he thought it was three couples. Whatever the case, there are times when the off-screen action is more exciting than the on-screen action.

Craig Revel-Horwood vs Brendan Cole Round 1

Brendan Cole, Alison Leonard, Craig Revel-Horwood, Paul Mercurio
On the first episode of Dancing with the Stars our two English imports clashed swords.

Judges Craig Revel-Horwood and Brendan Cole make it clear they’re not “frenemies”. These two really don’t like each other, and it doesn’t take long for the sparks to fly. We’re expecting more fights, so each week we’re going to give you our analysis of the arguments and tell you who’s winning each round!

The fight started after Tina Cross danced the Cha Cha. Brendan Cole made a point of telling Tina several “small” areas where she could make improvements. Craig Revel-Horwood saw it differently.

We’ve done our best to give you a transcript of the fight, but given that the two of them are speaking at the same time, there may be some minor inaccuracies.

BC: Congratulations, you’ve done a good job for the first show. you’ve got oodles of talent. You’ve got oodles of musicality.

BC: I’m going to be a bit more critical of you than perhaps the others because [cue awww noise from the audience]. No. No. [more noise from the audience]

BC: That’s okay. But only because I know you’ve got the ability to do it.

BC: It was a little bit stiff through the shoulders, a little bit stiff through the legs. You didn’t actually have an action to produce that movement. But it was still nice to watch so good and bad. Things you can work on.

PM: I thought it was more than nice to watch. Thought it was terrific.

Tina Cross, Aaron Gilmore, Cha Cha

CRH: Well, I can’t agree, sadly, with Brendan. I really only have one word to say and that is A-ma-zing. [muttering throughout this from BC]

CRH: Brendan, don’t ruin a lovely moment darling. Don’t ruin a lovely moment.

BC: I’m just wondering, is it because you have no idea on Cha Cha technique? Is it that or something else?

CRH: Oh, please. Come on. That was fantastic.

BC: I know it was fantastic.

CRH: How can you start throwing in all the bad nasty technique mumbo shumbo when that was clearly incredible?

BC: Because that’s how they get this dance, is through technique.

CRH: There was so much hip action in that. You must be blind if you can’t see any hip action.

BC: You wouldn’t know hip action if you … [drowned out]

CRH: Oh please, use an original line, darling.

Verdict:
Brendan Cole was spot on as the leg/hip action was a bit stiff, so he should win round one. However, he chose to be overly harsh on one of the top performers on the first night. That's Miss Prozac's job!

Cory’s hip action was appalling by comparison – where’s the level playing field?

Brendan conceded that it was fantastic, but continued to argue and spoke over the top of Craig Revel-Horwood and started to get personal. Countering that Craig's repeated use of the endearment 'darling' can come across as patronising.

Round 1: A narrow victory to Craig. Stay tuned for round 2…

Craig Revel Horwood's New Boyfriend

Craig Revel-HorwoodMiss Prozac was just listening to Dancing with the Stars judges Craig Revel-Horwood and Paul Mercurio talking with the boys from TV One’s Good Morning show, Steve Gray and Brendon Pongia.

At the very end she caught a wee snippet for those of you who are wondering what is happening in Craig’s love life. Last year, when he was here he talked openly about how he was single after the end of a long-term relationship (which he described as a divorce) and how he was hoping to meet a nice man. He met a few in New Zealand that have been waiting eagerly for his return, but it seems they’re too late!

Craig Revel-Horwood is here in New Zealand with his boyfriend Grant.

Craig also reiterated that he doesn't like judge Brendan Cole saying:

I really do dislike him.

He brings up the most ridiculous arguments. We’re all entitled to our opinions but some opinions suck, and his generally do.

On judging, Craig says he says he is simply honest about the contestants
I’m not hypercritical. I just say what I see.

I don’t see why I should piss in anyone’s pockets.

Err, no. That sounds very uncomfortable.

Craig Revel-Horwood was very positive about the New Zealand version of Dancing With The Stars describing it as having a great community feel with a lot of warmth between competitors, and contrasted it favourably with the UK’s Strictly Come Dancing which he says can be ‘cold’. So, there you have it. We're a lovely bunch of people, with the exception of Brendan Cole, who Craig is happy to tell all and sundry that he loathes! Expect more fireworks from these two on the judging panel...

Why we Love Craig Revel-Horwood

Craig Revel-HorwoodDancing with the Stars judge Craig Revel-Horwood hit our screens last year with his zinging criticisms, and repartee with contestants Paul The Gnome Holmes and Mayor Michael, so we were delighted to hear that he would be back on our screens in the 2008 series of DWTS. We love his honesty, his wit and his willingness to laugh at himself.

According, to a recent interview the tide has turned for Craig who was initially unpopular for his caustic comments on UK celebrity dancing contest, Strictly Come Dancing.

When BBC phenomenon Strictly Come Dancing first started, Craig was the man the viewers loved to hate, the waspish judge with an acerbic line in put-downs.

Last year, though, millions of dance fans witnessed a transformation, with Craig smiling throughout a season that saw some of the hottest ballroom dancing to date.

"People aren't hating me as much but rather enjoying the fact I am honest and direct and to the point. I don't start the on-screen arguments – I always have to defend myself!"

Craig goes on to say that he turned down the opportunity to be a judge in the United States version of DWTS, despite the $500,000 salary for 12 weeks work
He was offered the chance to join Len and Bruno on American version Dancing With The Stars, but turned it down because "it was a five year lock-in contract and I didn't have time".

He said: "I'm a director and a choreographer, not a full-time judge. I can't imagine that ever being a career for me.

"I think it would be ludicrous to be nothing but a celebrity head on a television talent show. While I am in New Zealand I write books and plays and shows – it's the only time I can do it. Right now I'm writing an autobiography through dance and people will find it very interesting, I think."

Craig has already written the popular book Teach Yourself Ballroom Dancing.

Dancing With The Stars 2008 Judges

DWTS Judges Brendan Cole & Paul MercurioThe judges for Dancing with the Stars 2008 have been confirmed, and it's looking like a fun judging panel, even if it is mainly comprised of foreigners.

We can look forward to more fireworks as Brendan Cole and Craig Revel-Horwood return to the judging panel, as will Alison Leonard, no doubt equipped with her usual brand of smutty innuendo.

Carol-Ann has been kicked off the judging panel, in favour of debonair dancer Paul Mercurio, who was on the judging panel in series one and two. Paul said he was “bummed out” about missing series three, as his judging duties on the Australian version of the show meant he was unavailable for the New Zealand series.

Brendan Cole a Womaniser and Show Off!

Brendan ColeIn last week's Now Magazine, Dancing with The Stars and Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel-Horwood lashes out at dancer and fellow DWTS judge Brendan Cole, labelling him a "sickening womaniser" and complaining that he does his on stage partners a disservice with his flamboyant dancing and flouting the rules.

According to Caustic Craig, Brendan is

“an absolute womaniser and an arsehole. I can’t bear him – he’s so self-righteous”
Craig goes on to say that Brendan lusts after Strictly Come Dancing partner Kelly Brook, but has been unable to woo her, as she remains loyal to fiancé Billy Zane.
You can guarantee he'll be putting his hands where he shouldn't – and all in the name of dance!
Brendan Cole swears that he finds Kelly attractive but has no plans to make a move on her. This, despite Kelly having to douse him with cold water during rehearsals, when Brendan became aroused by the close body contact.

Tension between Craig and Brendan is hardly new, but this is the most aggressive interview to date. A year ago Craig said that he wouldn't socialise with Brendan but that he didn't especially dislike him. Six months ago Craig, was less flattering
Our online poll results showed 11% of viewers think Brendan is right 18% think you are, and the rest believe you argue for the sake of it on-screen. Any comments on these statistics?
Why would I bother arguing for the sake of it? That's just plain ignorance on the viewer's part. I like to challenge people's opinions that's all. Opinions should be qualified and sometimes Brendon doesn't do that. As for the poll, I'm amazed anyone thinks that Brendan is right. Maybe that 11% want to get into his pants?
In previous interviews Brendan has said
Craig and I have professional differences, I'm professional and he's not!

Err, professionals don’t get aroused dancing with their celebrity partners, Brendan!

Miss Prozac can't wait for this pair to come back to New Zealand for the next season of Dancing with the Stars. Their cat fights

Craig Revel Horwood Gossip

Craig Revel HorwoodLonely Craig Revel Horwood is still looking for a lad to settle down with. In a recent interview with Sunday Mirror, the 42 year old Dancing with the Stars judge says he is picking kiwi Brendan Cole and his partner Kelly Brook has strong contenders for the 2007 series of UK's Strictly Come Dancing, but he fancies Blue Peter host Gethin Jones as a bit of alright.

I’m excited about Gethin Jones because he’s a stunner isn’t he? Absolutely gorgeous, the sexiest-ever contestant.

Openly gay Craig also talks about the cosmetic surgery he had done on his nose, the extra weight he carries on his tummy and his caustic comments. Interestingly Craig Revel Horwood admits to wearing Magic Knickers a la our Joe Cotton. If a movie was ever made about his life Craig nominates sexy Rupert Everett to play the part with Brendan Cole taking a turn in the dance scenes.
Who has been the most upset by your comments?
Julian Clary, but he got me back by saying I was an old Queen who wore too much foundation. That wasn’t nice because the BBC supplied it and put it on me and I happen to like it. I can’t not be brown, can I? That would be ridiculous.

What about the Jan Ravens incident?
I got beaten up by her husband in the BBC bar. I went up to commiserate and he told me to eff off and pushed me three times.

And if you want a laugh picture this...
I’ve worn drag. My outfit is a green Dynasty frock with shoulder pads, a cinched-in waist and red hair.

Updated February 2008: Craig has a new boyfriend

Best and Worst of Dancing with The Stars NZ

Stefano Olivieri and Suzanne Paul Paso Doble
Drum roll please. Here are our awards for this season’s Dancing With The Stars best and worst moments

Sizzle award
New Zealand’s sexiest woman, Hayley Holt, for that Rhumba.

Best judge’s quote
Craig Revel-Horwood: It’s enough to turn a gay man straight
(about Hayley Holt wrapping herself around Brendon Pongia during their Rhumba)

Cheek(s) award
Michael Laws for looking unaccountably hot wiggling his butt during the Jive

Best mascara award

  • Runner up: Frank it’s not macho to wear makeup Bunce
  • Winner: Michael Laws. What were the make-up gals thinking?

Best Tango
Brendan Cole and Craig Revel-Horwood sniping at each other throughout the competition

The Rodney Hide memorial ‘you call that dancing’ award

  • Runner up: Paul Holmes’ Thriller Paso Doble
  • Winner: Suzanne Paul’s freestyle dance. Since when does spending half the dance being twirled by your partner followed by manic running around the floor qualify as dancing?
To quote Michael Laws
Stefano Olivieri carried Suzanne for most of her final dance. If I had known you could score `10s' for looking decorous rather than dancing, I would have piggy-backed my partner Lauren for the entire 90 seconds. It may have launched a thousand fetish fantasies but, gee, it might have worked.

Best costume award
This was a toughy. So many gorgeous costumes but in the end the Paso Doble won it.

April & CsabaApril & Csaba
Tackiest costume
  • Runner up: Megan Alatini’s fruity bikini in the Samba
  • Winner: April Ieremia’s “naff” High School musical costume

Best necklace
Where to begin? Joint first equal Carol-Ann Hickmore and Krystal Stuart

Taking one for the team award

  • Special Merit award: Rebecca Nicholson for dancing with both Tim Shadbolt and Paul Holmes
  • Runner up: Michael Laws for dancing with a broken toe. Well he moaned about that a bit, so really the award is for being savvy enough to auction off the funny metal thing he stubbed his toe on and earn an extra $800 for his charity.
  • Winner: Krystal Stuart for dancing the Paso Doble with a broken toe and never uttering a word about the injury. Also ongoing bravery for dancing with Rodney Hide and taking the blame for the famous spear tackle fall.

Courage under fire:
Michael Laws for consistently smiling while being systematically taken apart by judge Craig Revel-Horwood

Charity we heard the most about:
The Suzanne Paul help me resurrect my career charity

The ego has landed award:
  • Runner up: Paul Holmes for thinking his Paso Doble was good
  • Winner: Megan Alatini for failure to accept constructive criticism from the judges without backchat

Most improved award
Jonny Williams – yes I know this is about the celebs but that boy can move and compared to last year he has improved in leaps and bounds.

Best dancer
Stefano Olivieri. How could you fail to win with that set of legs swivelling beside you? Expert, elegant and expressive Stefano Olivieri is one of the best dancers I have had the pleasure of watching. And who couldn’t love that gorgeous big smile?

WTF moment
  • Special Merit Award: Megan Alatini for telling the woman’s magazine how she has a ‘secret’ crush on dance partner the week after sharing her passionate bedroom secrets with another woman’s magazine the previous week
  • Runner up: Megan Alatini for telling partner Jonny Williams she couldn’t afford to pay him for ongoing dancing lessons. Say what? Didn’t she just get paid to do DWTS? Isn’t her husband on a lucrative playing contract in Japan? She’s not exactly destitute.
  • Winner: Suzanne Paul for telling Brendan Cole to “get over himself” and “go have a word for himself” because he dared to do his job and judge her.

Best pins
  • Runner up: Suzanne Paul
  • Winner: Candy Lane
These women are both similar ages, and wowser, would you take a look at those legs!

Best clanger
Candy Lane for continually muffing her scripted comedy. But we have to give credit (a) to Candy Lane for improving from season 1 and (b) to the script writers for reducing all that scripted nonsense

Smut award
Can only go to the ditzy Alison Leonard who has never heard a word she can’t imbue with some sexual meaning including telling Brendon Pongia women used to dial him for a good time, now they can dial him for good timing

The Forever Friends award for flirtation

  • Brendon Pongia and Hayley Holt
  • Greer Robson and Aaron Gilmore
  • Frank Bunce and Krystal Stuart
  • Megan Alatini and Jonny Williams

Dirty Dancing award
Brendan Cole and … anyone! But hey, who wouldn’t line up to dance with a man who can dance like that?
